Audition Information
Unlabeled Theatre Company: We are a diverse company of artists with a wide range of talents and needs. Our performances are stronger and more impactful when we are able to showcase the abilities of all artists. Our productions utilize the “shadow partner” staging model. Each role features an actor-artist with a cognitive/physical disability or are neurodivergent, who works with a shadow partner to develop and perform a role together. Because every member of our company has different needs and talents, each partnership is unique.
Seeking Actor-Artists 18+: who have a cognitive and/or physical disability or are neurodivergent, and are interested in the mission of Unlabeled Theatre Company of creating unified theatrical performances.
Seeking Shadow Partners 18+: Ideal partners are those with professional, theatrical, performing experience, or who have experience working with individuals with different needs. Please email Jessica Froehlich, Artistic Director, your resume and letter of intent if you are interested in working as a shadow partner.
Next Show: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius.
Partnerships are the key to how we are able to create these incredible performances. Each artist cast in a show is partnered with a professional or emerging theatre artist. The two perform the role together in unison. However, if an artist needs personal care or behavior support, they will need to have an additional support staff attend every rehearsal and performance in order to assist with those needs. UTC does NOT provide personal care support.
Please plan on attending auditions with your legal guardian (if applicable) or a person who provides you with most of your transportation and support.
Auditions: August 27th, 2026 from 6:00-8:30 PM. General auditions will take place at St. Peter’s in Edina (5421 France Ave S., Edina MN 55410.) No preparation necessary.
Cost: Free!
Age: 18+ (adult; high school graduate)
Rehearsals: September 8, 2026-January 14, 2027. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-8:30 PM. All general rehearsals take place at St. Peter’s in Edina. Tech, dress rehearsals, and performances at Gremlin Theatre, St Paul. NO REHEARSALS on holidays.
Performances: January 15-17 and 21-24 (2027), at the Gremlin Theatre in St. Paul. Please note, January 21 will be a school day matinee at 11:00AM.
